WOODROW HOUSTON YOKUM, age 91 years, a resident of Beverly, WV departed this life early Wednesday morning, May 28, 2014 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV.
He was born Saturday, August 5, 1922 at Beverly, WV a son of the late Clarence Warren Yokum, Sr., and Rose Blake Stalnaker Yokum. On December 23, 1945 at the First Baptist Church at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Wanda Jean Hill, who preceded him in death March 13, 2012. Surviving are one daughter, Sherri L. Elliott and husband Harry, of Beverly; one sister, Carrie Culver, of Florence, KY; a very special niece, Linda L. Peterson, of Beverly; two grandchildren, Jeffery Riggleman and wife Katrina, of Fredericksburg, VA; Amy Zervos and husband Nick, of Morgantown; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Riggleman; Logothetis; Saige; Theophis; and Ariah Zervos; two step grandsons, Todd Elliott and wife Mary, of Buckhannon; Brian Elliott and wife Tiffany; of Elkins; five step great grandchildren, Danielle; Kylie; Marty; Austin; and Aaron and three nieces, Bette Bates; and Gwen Bumgardner, both of Knoxville, TN; April Curry and husband Glenn, of Hebron, KY; and one nephew, Terry Yokum and wife Jenny, of OR.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Clarence Warren Yokum, Jr.; and two sisters, Dorothy Peterson; and infant Genevieve Yokum.
He was a graduate of Beverly High School with the Class of 1940 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He along with his wife owned and operated the Beverly Store for forty-five years. He was a licensed pilot for forty-five years and was a founding member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Randolph Lodge # 55, A.F. & A.M and the Beverly Presbyterian Church.The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 11 AM to 1:30 PM. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Saturday at 1:30 PM. The Rev. Joanne Glaser will officiate and interment will follow at the Earle Cemetery at Beverly, WV, where the Randolph Lodge # 55, A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites.
