William (Bill) Harvey Henderson departed his earthly life on June 14, 2014. He was born on January 25, 1930 in Grafton, WV to William Andrew Clay Henderson and Amy Virginia Allender Henderson.
He had three sisters: Lucille and husband, Ed Beavers; Eleanor and husband, Bob Brake and Laura and husband, Clarence (Pete) Hicks. He was married to Margaret Louise Summers on November 22, 1951 and had five beloved children: Sheree and husband, Bob Wetzel of Media, PA; Jill and husband, Jim Jenkins of Mars Hills, NC; Susan and husband, Joe Closson of Fairmont, WV; Christi and husband, Kent Rauscher of Kill Devil Hills, NC; and Bill Clay and wife, Joy McDaniel Henderson of Grafton. Grandchildren are: Courtney Wetzel, Kirby Wetzel, Kaitryn Wetzel, Eric Jenkins, Ross Jenkins, Kallin Closson, William Noah Henderson and Mia Jo Henderson. He had one great-grandchild Aidan Lee Burchell. He has two sisters, Laura Hicks, Grafton, Eleanor Brake and husband Bob, Grafton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Closson and one sister, Lucille Beavers. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1947 and served three years in US Air Force in Roswell, New Mexico and overseas in England.
He was retired from US Postal Service in Grafton and was a registered mutual fund representative for over 50 years. Winters were spent at the beach on Hatteras Island, NC where he fished, built two houses and judged in the Cape Hatteras Anglers Fishing Tournament for over 20 years.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Grafton and attended the lodge in Elizabeth City, NC for twelve years after moving to Elizabeth City in 2001. He was also a member of the Taylor County Shrine Club in Grafton and marched in many Memorial Day parades. He also served on the board of the Taylor County Fair Grounds for over 50 years.
He attended City Road United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City and was a lifelong member of Haymond United Methodist Church. He never knew a stranger and brought lots of joy and laughter to those who crossed his path.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and friend to many living a full life with bountiful blessings.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 2-8 pm. Funeral service will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00AM with Rev Sue Lowther officiating. Interment will follow at West Virginia National Cemetery.
Masonic burial rites will be rendered by The Grafton Lodge #15 AF&AM. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Memorial City Post #3081, American Legion Taylor County Post # 12, Central WV DAV Chapter 24 and their auxiliaries, and the WV Army National Guard of Camp Dawson.
