RISER, Thomas William, Jr., 78, of Wheeling, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born September 5, 1932 in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Thomas W. Riser, Sr. and Ruth V. Morris Riser.
Mr. Riser was a retired serviceman for Mountainneer Gas Company, Wheeling, and he was a Veteran of the U.S. Naval Air Reserves. He was a member of the Greggsville United Methodist Church.
“Tom” was a member and Past Master of Wheeling Lodge #5 AF & AM; a 33rd degree Scottish Right Mason and was Secretary and Treasurer of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Wheeling; a member of Wheeling Chapter #1 and Wheeling Commandery #1; a standard bearer and Trustee of Wheeling Commandery; a member of the Red Cross of Constantine (Prelate for 1997), and Knight Masons of North America Council #7. He was also a past member of York Rite College St. Thomas of Acon; a former Osiris Clown; and past secretary of Scottish Rite conference in WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard P. Riser, and his sister, Phyllis A. Lisak.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Lee Phillips Riser; a son, Thomas W. Riser, III and his wife, Sharon of Wheeling; two daughters, Becky Naumann and her husband Robert of Elm Grove, and Jody Miller and her husband, Ronald of Valley Grove; seven grandchildren, Thomas, IV, Jennifer and Jamie Riser; Whitney Sorge and Julie Richmond (D.J.); Sarah and Matthew Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Brenton and Kendyl Sorge.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Kepner Funeral Home, (304-242-2311) 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 with the Rev. Drs. Linda and Douglas Liston officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
Wheeling Lodge #5 AF&AM will conduct Masonic graveside services.
