Death of Seba T. Anderson

M.W. Seba T. Anderson, Past Grand Master of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of West Virginia, and Past Grand Commander, died during the evening of Wednesday, March 2, 2011.

Funeral: Monday March 7, 2011 11am at Shinnston Methodist Church (about 1 block from the funeral home)
Interment: Shinnston Masonic Cemetery (adjolining the lodge)

A meal will be served at the Shinnston Methodist Church following the interment.

SUGGESTION:  Just in case, bring a white apron with you – a large gathering is anticipated.

Grand Lodge will open Monday, March 7, 2011 at 10am, in the St. Johns Lodge 24, Shinnston and proceed from there to the Shinnston Methodist Church for the funeral service

Seba Thomas Anderson, 78, of Willow Beach, passed away on Wednesday,
March 2, 2011 at 6:29 PM at the Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 21, 1933 in Wyatt, a son of the late Thomas and Opal McCauley Anderson.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his loving wife Lucille Bartlett Anderson whom he married on August 10, 1962.

Also surviving are his nephews, Tom Greaver and wife Shirley of Enterprise; David Greaver of Shinnston; Robert Greaver and wife Carol of Shinnston; and Dicky Drain of NC; his nieces, Karen Crayton of Florida; Janet Dotson and husband Roger of Shinnston; Jennifer Bailey and husband Charlie of Fayetteville; Jan King and husband Doug; Jill Bolz and husband Dane; and Debbie Miller and husband Pete, all of Wisconsin; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Seba was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law; Luvon and Thomas Greaver; and Juanita and Edward Drain; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Nathaniel and Betty Anderson; and Harold and Elsey Anderson.

Mr. Anderson graduated from the Shinnston High School in 1952. He served our country in the U.S. Army in 1955 where he spent two years in Munich,Germany. He went on to attend Fairmont State University and Salem College. He was awarded a degree from the University of Hard Knocks by the Alderson Broaddus College. Seba was employed with PPG Industries in Clarksburg for 16 years until their closing in 1974 he then went on to work for Ingersol Rand in Clarksburg for 8 years until their closing. He retired from the Harrison County Board of Education as an electrician. Seba was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shinnston where he served as a Trustee and the Chairman of Finance.

He was raised to the Sublime degree of Master Mason in the Hermon Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. in 1967 and served the lodge as Worshipful Master in 1972 to 1974. He was then elected Secretary of Hermon Lodge and held that position until 1988. Seba has twice served The Grand Lodge of West Virginia as Grand Pursuivant. He was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the Second Masonic District in 1981. He was Grand Representative to British Columbia and served on the Foreign Correspondence Committee for several years. He was elected Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge at Clarksburg in 1995. And was later elected as the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia in 1998. For 20 years he has been the Secretary- Treasurer and Superintendent of the Clarksburg Masonic Building Company. He joined the Scottish Rite in 1967 and was a Past Wise Master of The Chapter of Rose Croix. He corronetted a Thirty Third degree Honorary in 1993. Seba joined the Queen Esther Chapter No. 11, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Patron in 1978 and 1985. He belonged to the Nemesis Temple of the Shrine as well as the York Rite College, Knights Masons, the Royal Order of Scotland, an Anointed High Priest, Allied Masonic Degrees, Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar, and Red Cross of Constantine. He is a member and Past High Priest of Adoniram Chapter No.11, Royal Arch Masons as well as the Past Commander of the Clarksburg Commandery No.13 Knights Templar. He received the Knight York Cross of Honor in 1975. Seba was also a Grand Commander of Knights Templar of West Virginia from 1991 to 1992.

Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston on Saturday from 2-8 PM and Sunday from 12-8 with an Order of the Eastern
Star service at 7:00 PM and Order of the Amaranth service at 7:30. The body will lie in state at the First United Methodist Church in Shinnston
on Monday from 10-11 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jeff Winter officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knight Templar Eye Foundation c/o George Jackson – Masonic Building Committee 427 W. Pike St. Clarksburg, WV 26301.
