Death of Jewell Smith Coffindaffer

Mr. Jewell Smith Coffindaffer, 90, of Charleston, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston. He was born Oct. 15, 1923 in Kincheloe, the son of the late Dempse and Lillian McLain Coffindaffer.

Mr. Coffindaffer served during World War II in the United States Navy Seabees. He was retired from IBEW Local No. 466, where he was a master electrician. He was also a member of Salina Masonic Lodge No. 27 AF&AM, Malden, and also a Shriner in the Beni Kedem Shrine Club, Charleston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Coffindaffer; grandson, Larry Keith “Daffer” Coffindaffer II; and brother, Charles “Major” Coffindaffer.

Survivors include his son, Larry Keith (Linda McCoy) Coffindaffer of Chapmanville; grandchildren, Cindy Coffindaffer (Anthony) Colasante of Morgantown, Ryan C. Vance of Chapmanville, MSgt. Leslie Vance (serving in Afghanistan) (Jay) Wagner of Bossier City, La.; great-grandchildren, Haley Ryann Vance, Lindsay Faith Byer, Domenic Steven Colasante and Quinton Boone Wagner; nephew, Jim Coffindaffer; and special schnauzer puppy, Tasha.

Service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Cunningham Memorial Park Mausoleum, St. Albans, with the Rev. John Freeman as officiant. Entombment will follow the military graveside rites.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
