James Bailey Pierce, 84, of Logan, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. He was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Dunbar, the son of the late Albert Ray and Ruth Bailey Pierce.
A 1948 graduate of Dunbar High School, Jim attended Marshall College. He was the owner and president of Hutchinson Tire Service, Inc., in Logan.
Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Logan. He was a 50-year member of Dunbar Lodge No. 159 AF&AM, a 32 Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Beni Kedem Shrine.
He was a past member of Rotary International, a Kentucky Colonel and a past president of the local West Virginia Airstream RV Club-Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI).
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Jackson Pierce; brother, Paul Ray Pierce; and granddaughter, Kimberly Margaret Pierce.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Blankenbeckler Pierce, his family and dear friends. Children include James B. (Calisa) Pierce Jr. of Charleston, Margaret Jane (Rick) Faulkner of Ashland, Ky., and Glenn Robert (Glenys) Pierce of King, N.C. Stepchildren include Dreama Blankenbeckler of Seattle, Wash., Keith Blankenbeckler of Louisville, Ky., and Kurt (Linda) Blankenbeckler of Sutton. Additional survivors include his sister, Bette Jesse of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Rachel Sipple, Cody Pierce, Kelsey Pierce, James Kevin Pierce and Elizabeth Pierce; four step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Rex Thompson and the Rev. Tim Barnhouse officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, or the First Baptist Church of Logan.
