We wanted to make sure to let you know. Harry Alt passed away earlier this morning, May 15. Final
arrangements for services are being made at this time and will be passed on as soon as possible.

Harry C. Alt

KEYSER, WV – Harry C. Alt, 57, of Valley View Road, Keyser, died on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at his residence.

Born on October 4, 1952, in Bedford, PA, he was a son of the late Herman C. and Eleanor Jean (Pebley) Alt.  He was also preceded in death by a brother Barry Alt and an infant sister.

Mr. Alt was a retired Assistant Principal at Mineral County VOTEC.  He was a graduate of Bedford High School, Shippensburg State University and a master degree from West Virginia University.

Harry was a member of Bedford Lodge #320, AF &  AM  and Past Master, Bedford RA Chapter #255 and Past High Priest, Salem Council #11 of Cumberland, Damacus Commandery #23 and Past Commander, Knights of Templar and Past Commander, Department Inspector Division 2 Commander of West Virginia Grand Captain General, Altoona Scottish Rite Bodies, Martinsburg York Rite College #175 and Past Governor, Shenandoah Priory Knights of the York Cross of Honour #32 and Past Prior, Past President Bedford County Scottish Rite Club and Council #359, Past Chief and member of Keyser Volunteer Fire Department, Past President CVVFA, WV State Fire Association, WV Fire Service Instructor, WV Forest Fire Warden, Mineral County Fireman Association, NCTM, WV ASSP and NASSP.

Surviving are his wife Jeane (Cummings) Alt; a brother, William Alt and wife Sandy of Bedford, PA; five sisters, Patricia Groves of Woodbridge, VA, Linda Smith & husband Colin of Norton, Mass., Lisa DeThomas and husband Nick of Bedford, PA, Carol Bush and husband Chris of Bedford, PA and Cathy Shoemaker and husband Jeremy of Las Cruces, NM.  He is also survived by 5 nephews, 3 nieces, and 4 great nephews and nieces.

Friends will be received by the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.   Funeral services will be conducted at the Keyser Fire Station #2 on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Charles Henry and Reverend Charles Barnhart officiating.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Fire Hall from noon until time of services at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser with Masonic graveside services by Davis Lodge #51, AF & AM and the Fire Department last siren.

A Fire Department Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 7 p.m.
