Gerald Dixen Walker, 86, of Cross Lanes, passed away at HospiceCare’s Hubbard House on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
He was born on September 11, 1926 in Nitro, WV. The son of the late Ralph C. and Cecelia F. Walker.
He retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation after working over 30 years in various positions, the most recent being Building Superintendent at St. Albans Operating Center. He was a member of the Nitro Presbyterian church. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force and was honorably discharged after serving during World War II. He was also a member of the Dunbar chapter of the Masons.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Margie A. Walker.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Barbara H. Walker; grandson, Frederic G. D. Walker; and, granddaughter Adrienne C. L. Walker.
Friends and family may call at the Tyler Mountain Funeral Home located at 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 27. A brief memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home immediately prior to burial at the adjacent Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to all of Gerald’s caregivers in the memory care unit at Charleston Gardens, as well as the exceptional care provided by the HospiceCare staff.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to either the WV-Alzhiemer’s Assocation or to HospiceCare.
