George William Hartman 82 of St Albans passed away at home surrounded by family Thursday June 26, 2014
George was born on July 13, 1931 to the late Fredrick C. and Mildred Lamberson Hartman . He was preceded in death by his siblings – Don, Whitey, Red , Ike, Bobby Jack, Larry, Paul, Margaret, Naomi, Suzanne, Jane and his wives, Jean Ann Robinson, the mother to his children, and Grace Angle.
Still here to keep the light burning bright are uncountable family, friends, children, memories and mysteries. A few of them include his son George Jr [aka Bill] and his wife Julie and their 6 children – Melissa, Christy, Brent, Evan, Paige, Billy and their 10 grand kids; son Gary and his partner Chris; daughter Velva Copen and her husband Jim and their 3 children -Kendi, Lucinda, Miranda and their 2 grand kids, a niece who was like a sister Susanbell Wiseman, a best friend who was like another brother Stan Graves, a sister-in-law Shirley Hartman and a special friend Bobbie Bayliss
George was most proud of his first job as a newspaper carrier for the Charleston paper for Beech Ave and Edgewood Dr. George started his career with the USPS as a Special Delivery Carrier in 1951 and in 1964 was appointed Postmaster for St. Albans by President Johnson and in 1974 worked for the Postal Regional Office until his retirement in 1984.
George was a member, Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans and also attended the Kanawha City Church of Christ
George was active in local politics and served on the Kanawha County Democratic Committee.
George was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge #58 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies of Charleston WV, 32 degree KCCH, member of Beni Kendem Temple.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans, 201 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston with Masonic rites conducted by the Washington Masonic Lodge, St. Albans.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home where a Scottish Rite service will be held at 8:00pm.
