Death of George H. Garber

George H. Garber, 84, passed away on December 24th at his home. Mr. Garber was born on February 14, 1929, the son of the late George Trenton Garber and Lena Miller Garber. He is the last member of his immediate family. His brother J. Trenton Garber, Carl T. Garber and sisters, Edna Hyde Teel, Polly Anderson, and Evelyn Moyer all preceded him in death.

Mr. Garber graduated from Handley High School in 1947. He worked for the local branch of Western Maryland Supply Corp. for forty-five years. He served with the National Guard 29th division, 116th Infantry for 21 years and retired as a captain.

In 1951 he married Nora Chrisman. Surviving with his wife is a son George H. (Chip) Garber, Jr. and wife Linda of Wylie, Texas and a daughter S. Chris Garber of Bunker Hill, West Virginia. Two daughters, Elizabeth Miller Garber and Pamela Garber Hedges are deceased. He has three grandchildren, Rusty, Lauren and Derek Garber living in Texas.

Mr. Garber was a member of the Winchester City Council for 20 years. He was also a member of the local Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club and Elks Club.
Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church where he was a member for over 65 years. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 12 noon. Interment will be in the Mount Hebron cemetery and will be private.
