Death of Edwin “Wayne” Fetty

Edwin “Wayne” Fetty, 80, of Fairmont passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.

He was born in Core, WV on July 5, 1931, a son of the late Audrey Clarence “Jeff” and Lena Mae (Lemley) Fetty.

Wayne graduated from Clay Battelle High School and attended West Virginia University prior to joining the Navy. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Coral Sea. He started his mining career as an electrician with the United Mine Workers of America. He later worked as a maintenance foreman at several mines, including Loveridge, Williams, Robinson Run No. 95 and Consol No. 9. In 1978 he obtained a position with MSHA in Fairmont where he was a Coal Mine Safety and Health Electrical Inspector until 1995. Wayne was very well respected in his position. He was especially proud of his certification by the National Association of Electrical Safety Authorities. He was one of only 137 in the world at the time he received his certification. He attended the Carolina United Methodist Church. He was a life member of VFW Post 629 and he was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, Fairmont Lodge No. 157.

Prior to his illness, Wayne was very active. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his son, especially their trips to Lake Erie. He raised beautiful gardens with his nephew James M. Herron of which he was very proud. Wayne was a very helpful individual, he believed in helping others whenever possible. He was often called upon by friends, neighbors, and relatives to fix things around their homes. One of the things Wayne was most known for was his dedication and hard work ethic.

He is survived by his son, Gregory Wayne Fetty and his wife Nancy of Fairmont, two granddaughters, Kristen E. Fetty and Heather S. Fetty, one brother, Issac “Kenneth” Fetty and his wife Deloris of Core, and two sisters-in-law, Sandra Lee Herron of the John Manchin Sr. Health Center and Rebecca Garrett and her husband Timothy of Fairmont.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy Ann (Herron) Fetty whom he adored.

Wayne was blessed with the friends and neighbors who surrounded him. The family would especially like to thank the Rev. Danny Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Terry (Mary Frances) Brake, Mr. and Mrs. Al (Julie) Romaine, Mr. and Mrs. (Dee) James Herron II, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff (Crystal) Fast, and Denise Donahue. These individuals regularly visited him during his illness and were an integral part of his life. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital for all of their care and compassion during his illness.

Family and friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Friday from 5-9 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11 am with Rev. Danny Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Nuzum Cemetery in Marion County.
