Death of Donald Neptune

FAIRMONT — Donald L. Neptune, 81, of Barrackville, died Friday (April 8, 2011) at his residence.

He was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Barrackville, the son of the late Marbry Ellis and Cora Dell Robinson Neptune.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Horton Neptune, of Barrackville.

Mr. Neptune was a 1948 graduate of Barrackville High School. He also attended Fairmont State College. Don was a veteran with the United States Army having served in Korea for over 15 months. He attended the Barrackville Church of Christ and the Bethesda Baptist Church in Barrackville.

Don retired from Fairmont Machinery in the EIMCO Division with over 45 years of service. He was a corporate board member of the Fairmont Clinic for over 30 years, and a board member of the Fairmont General Hospital, Inc. for over 20 years. Don served as mayor of Barrackville for two years and on the Barrackville Town Council for 20 years.

He was a member of Marion County Labor Federation, Marion County Democratic Men’s Club and Marion County Democrat Executive Committee. Don was a charter member of the Barrackville Lions Club and served as Scout Master for the Barrackville Boy Scout Troop. Don was a member of the Masonic Acacia Lodge No. 157 AF&AM of Fairmont, as well as a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley of Clarksburg, Orient of West Virginia.

Mr. Neptune is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan and Susan Neptune of Morgantown, and Andy and Andrea Neptune of Barrackville; five grandchildren: Seth, Grant, Alana, Devon, and Logan Neptune; one half-sister, Mary Jo Nay, of Texas; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Haugh, of Mannington; a brother-in-law, Robert Bullin of Myrtle Beach; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; four half-sisters: Naomi Crooks, Maxine Siebert, Burris Kunker and Thelma Boggess; one half-brother, Charles Boggess; and one brother, Jack Neptune

Serving as pallbearers will be: Alan Neptune, Andy Neptune, Seth Neptune, Logan Neptune, Grant Neptune, Kevin Haugh and Brian Haugh.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Evangelist Steve Snider officiating. The committal service will follow in the Ice Cemetery in Barrackville.
