Donald Gene Sovel, 74, of Mineral Wells, passed away Jan. 14, 2012.

He was born in Parkersburg, the son of the late Olive Sovel.

He had been employed at Corning Glass and had retired after 38 years of service. He was a longtime member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge 3 AF&AM, where he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and was a member of Jerusalem Chapter 3, The Calvary Commandery and the Ben Bay Grotto. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, he had taken many hunting and trout fishing trips to Montana and was a lifetime member of the N.R.A.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, West Virginia Mountaineers and Parkersburg Big Reds fan. He loved boating and antique car shows and going to the Cruise Ins. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and his two dogs, Teddy and Half Pint. He had attended Lynn Street Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Teresa L. Carpenter Sovel of Mineral Wells; his children, Derrick Sovel and wife, Tonya, of Parkersburg and Jim Sovel and wife, Lori, of Winfield, W.Va.; and his grandchildren, Coby Sovel, Karlee Sovel, Sophie Sovel, Cooper Sovel and Remi Sovel.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Henry and Gatha Sovel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Evangelist Teddy Tackett officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
