Mr. Chesley “Chet” Barnard, age 89, of Nutter Fort, WV passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Louis A. Johnson Medical Center.
Mr. Barnard was born on September 25, 1924 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Earl James and Martha Virginia Gorby Barnard. He was a 1942 graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School, then served his Country in the United States Navy from June 1942-March 1946. He was then honorably discharged and worked for PPG Industries, and Larosa Fuel Company. He was also a volunteer at the Nutter Fort Fire Department and served as a councilman for the Town of Nutter Fort. He was also very active in the Nutter Fort Baptist Church where he was a member for over 50 years, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of Masonic Lodge #155, Clarksburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Anne Barnard on July 05, 1999 whom he married on July 29, 1950.
He is survived by his children; Celeste Lynne Barnard Frazier Perri, of Clayton, NC, Chesley James “Barney” Barnard, Jr. and wife Theresa, of Bridgeport, Judith Anne Barnard, of Nutter Fort; grandchildren, Rebecca Lynne Schmoyer and husband Doug, of Garner NC, Meredith Brooke Frazier and fiancé Marco, of Raleigh, NC, Heath Garrett Frazier and wife Paige, of Stonewood, Joshua James Barnard, of Nutter Fort, Luke Joseph Barnard and wife Dana, of Abingdon, VA, Adam Christian Barnard and wife Kaleigh of Pueblo, CO; great-grandchildren, Dylan Bruce Schmoyer, Tyler Mark Schmoyer, Brady Douglas Schmoyer, Landon James Frazier, Rhett Garrett Frazier, Mary Gianna Barnard, Gavin James Barnard, and Rowe Joshua Barnard; sister-in-law, Susan Annabelle Barnard of Nutter Fort, brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Betty Barnard, of Lakewood, WA; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Barnard.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Davis Funeral Home on Rt. 98/Clarksburg.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:00am from the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Don Fowler, presiding.
Clarksburg Lodge No. 155, A.F.&A.M. will meet at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Wednesday for the purpose of attending and conducting graveside rites.
Interment will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens where full military honors will also be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the US Navy.
