Charles Everett Elkins, 85, of Hamlin, died April 23, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallie G. and Bessie Chaney Elkins.
He was an educator and coach for 44 years, serving as head basketball coach for 32 years at Hamlin High School and principal for five years. He was a 1952 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, a member of the Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame and the West Virginia Wesleyan Charles Elkins Alumni Award.
He was a member of Hamlin United Methodist Church; past president of Hamlin Lions Club; past president of the West Virginia Coaches Association; and a member of Hamlin Masonic Lodge No. 79.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Black Elkins; sons, Chuck (Debbie) Elkins of Winfield and Bill (Sonda) of Hamlin; brother, Carl (Barbara) Elkins of Hamlin; grandchildren, Amber (Brian) Vance, Ashley (Jason) Linville, Andrew and Alex Elkins, Megan (Justin) Hannah, Lindsay (Chris) Rotella and Emma Elkins; and great-grandchildren, Audrey, Sarah and Maggie Vance, Will Linville and Parker Hannah.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, with the Rev. Robert Fulton and David Burch officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park, Hamlin, with Masonic graveside services.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Frida, at the Charles E. Elkins Gymnasium at Hamlin High School.
