Carl “Buck” Locke Sr., 84, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his home.
Born May 29, 1927, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Garland and Van Detta (Timberlake) Locke.
Mr. Locke was retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after 42 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Locke was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
He was active in the Masonic Order, serving as grand commander of Knights Templar of West Virginia, Worshipful Master of Equality Lodge No. 44, he was past high priest of Lebanon Chapter No. 2, Royal Arch Masons, past commander of Palestine Commandery No. 2 Knight Templar, past Grand Tall Cedars of Shenandoah Forest, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and was a member of Osiris Shrine at Wheeling, past president of Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club, and a member of the Court 13 of the Royal Order of Jesters Court, Wheeling.
He was a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies of Martinsburg, having served as venerable master and wise master of the Martinsburg Lodge of Perfection. He was invested with the rank and decoration of knight commander of the Court of Honor and was coroneted as 33rd degree master.
He was past sovereign of Mountain State Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine and past eminent prior of Shenandoah Priory 32, Knights of the York Cross of Honor.
He was past sovereign of Martinsburg Council No. 359 and Parkersburg, St. Lawrence The Martyr No. 21, Allied Masonic Degrees.
He was past grand commander of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests of Mt. Calvary Tabernacle Parkersburg No. 19, and a charter member of Martinsburg York Rite College and past governor and was a holder of the Order of the Purple Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn (Miller) Locke; two sons, Carl L. “Buck” Locke Jr. and wife, Eleanor, of Martinsburg and Gary Locke, of Marlowe; grandchildren, Leslie Louise Locke Gantt, Jessica Lee Locke, Jamie Lynn Locke, Tiffany Lynn Locke, Jason C. Locke and Jeremy W. Locke; a number of great-grandchil- dren; and one sister, Daisy Dawn “Peggy” Locke, of Martinsburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a sister, Wanda McKinney; and brother-in-law, William McKinney.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Clipp officiating. Military and Masonic graveside service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friend from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
