Death of Brooks Lanham

Brooks Lanham, 73, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Brooks was born in Charleston on Aug. 7, 1940, to the late Orville Brooks and Imogene Lanham. He was a retired Funeral Attendant and Courier for Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, among others in the valley. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Charleston and a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge No. 153 A.F. & A.M.; Beni Kedem Shrine where he was active in the Clown Unit. During his life, Brooks was one that never met a stranger and became friends with many. He will be dearly missed by many family members and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gloria Dodd Lanham; daughter, Michele (Andy) Reed of St. Albans; the apples of his eye, grandchildren, Drew & Taylor Reed; brother, Gary (Barb) Lanham of Cross Lanes; sister, Brenda Wolfe of Charleston; several nieces; and great nephews & nieces.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 7 at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home, with H.R. Whittington (Celebrant) & LeaAnn Strickland, his cousin of North Carolina, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. A visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home.
